Bradley announces COVID-19 outbreak among student-orientation personnel

Journal Star - 7/24/2020

Jul. 24--PEORIA -- An outbreak of the disease coronavirus causes has been reported at Bradley University.

A total of eight people among the West Bluff school's summer-orientation program tested positive for COVID-19, according to a news release the university issued about 12:30 a.m. Friday.

Bradley did not specify if the positive tests came from students, faculty or support staff.

The positive tests were rooted in contact tracing from an initial suspected case, the university stated. It is attempting to identify others who might have been exposed.

A 14-day quarantine is in effect for affected individuals, according to the university.

Bradley usually conducts on-campus orientation sessions each summer for incoming students. The university also has been conducting campus tours curbside and by appointment.

In May, Bradley announced it intended to resume on-campus instruction for the fall semester, which is to begin Aug. 26. Residence halls are to open Aug. 22.

At the time, the relatively small size of the university and Peoria were cited among reasons for an on-campus return. Bradley conducted online classes after the coronavirus pandemic began in mid-March.
